Exciting news first reported by Tomasz Włodarczyk this morning, as it became widely reported that young Górnik Zabzre striker Szymon Włodarczyk was the subject of a formal offer by Austrian side Sturm Graz.

According to this initial report, the bid tabled by Graz is for €2.5 million, with additional bonuses and a percentage of Włodarczyk’s next move included. This report was then picked up by Fabrizio Romano, who more or less reported the details exactly the same, but also included the very obvious yet apt comparison with Rasmus Hojlund.

Hojlund left Graz last summer for Atalanta in Serie A, having spent just under nine months in the Austrian Bundesliga. His development and value have since skyrocketed, and you imagine that all parties involved would hope that a similar path is there for Włodarczyk.

Indeed, there was some Serie A interest for Włodarczyk, and there had also been interest from MLS sides and Belgian powerhouse Anderlecht back in January, so it will be interesting to see if Włodarczyk sees Graz as the perfect “stepping stone” club given what has happened with Hojlund.

It’s also worth remembering that Górnik will benefit hugely from this transfer, assuming that the offer is accepted. Given Włodarczyk came in on a free transfer, they now stand to make huge profit staggered over several seasons.

Włodarczyk should also benefit from playing at a higher level, and will surely get a move to a Top 5 league in the next 18-24 months if his development continues on its current trajectory. Whether he has a rise similar to Hojlund is anybody’s guess, but there is definitely the blueprint in place for that to happen.
