It’s been quite the week for Lech Poznań’s Michał Skóraś. The 22 year-old winger scored and assisted in Lech’s opening Conference League game against Villarreal last Thursday, he scored again on Sunday in a 2-2 draw with Pogoń Szczecin, was called-up to the Nations League squad on Monday and signed a new contract until 2026 with the Kolejorz on Tuesday.
He made the comment about not being ready for a move abroad before Thursday’s game in Spain, but the performance he put in there, as well as his consistently good performances for Lech this campaign (one of few in the side) will be having many scouts sitting up and taking notice. Perhaps it is a little churlish to be speaking of a move away from Lech given he signed his new contract yesterday, but we have to be honest and say that we all hope the Ekstraklasa will not be the only league he plays in.
Lech have a good track record of bringing through exciting wingers. Recent history has seen Kamil Jóźwiak rise through their ranks before his move to Derby, as well as Jakub Kamiński last season before his move to Wolfsburg this summer. Skóraś has been predicted as the next from the production line, a theory he is keen to downplay at present.
If Skóraś were to move, when and where are most likely? You would imagine if an offer were to come in from a Top 5 league club during January, he would be loaned back to Lech until the conclusion of the 22-23 season. Serie A, as a league, is often keen to take a chance on young Polish talent from the Ekstraklasa. The MLS would be a good move, as it can often be a stepping stone for Ekstraklasa players before making their big move (look at Przemysław Frankowski, for example).
Admittedly, this is all speculation, but the call-up for the national team proves that at some point, Skóraś will probably get a move to a top league. He has to keep improving, of course, but the signs have been there in recent weeks that his talent could develop in another few months to be worthy of a serious transfer away from the Ekstraklasa.
