After Tuesday’s match against Mexico, there was plenty of valid criticism of Czesław Michniewicz’s tactics. Whilst he was very defensive yesterday towards this criticism (much like his football), today’s press conference attended by Michniewicz, Jakub Kamiński and Michał Skóraś gave us a few clues as to what might be different on Saturday against Saudi Arabia.
Michniewicz confirmed that there would be a different style of play than what we saw against Mexico, but I’m hesitant to celebrate this. Whether this means there will be less hoofing the ball up the pitch or if this is just mind games we will find out closer to kick-off, although we’re hearing rumours that Michniewicz is going to revert to the back three despite Tuesday’s back four being very successful and one of the few positives from that Mexico game.
Initially it was thought the back three might return since Bartosz Bereszyński was alleged to have suffered a minor injury, but Michniewicz today stated that everyone will be available for Saturday.
Bearing this in mind, here is what I would choose to do if I were picking the starting XI, firstly staying with the back four and secondly if the back three were to return.
As you can see, even when changing the formation I feel that the personnel should probably remain. Przemysław Frankowski was pretty good when he came on against Mexico I felt, and perhaps he should be used from the start given that Nicola Zalewski wasn’t up to his usual standard and Kamiński is still young and inexperienced and there were situations on Tuesday when that showed, although I thought he was decent overall.
There’ll be a second preview article tomorrow evening, where I’ll go into more detail on the opposition (and try not to confuse a Mexican with a Frenchman like I did last time, oops) as well as the bigger picture of what I predict Michniewicz will do on Saturday afternoon.
