Everton could do a lot worse than Piątek as a back-up striker

Stories have emerged today by WP Sportowe Fakty that Turkish club Fenerbahce have opened talks with Hertha Berlin over out of favour striker Krzysztof Piątek.

It is a move that would probably make a lot of sense for all parties involved. Fenerbahce get an experienced striker, Hertha get him off the books and Piątek gets regular game time, and a strong chance to participate in European competition.

Although the two clubs have already opened talks, I would like to make a suggestion that I think would make a lot of sense after watching Everton’s game against Chelsea last week.

For all of their good play, they missed having a traditional striker to hold up the ball and challenge the Chelsea centre backs for headers, and with the news that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be out for around a month still, it has been widely reported that Everton are on the lookout for a back-up striker.

None of the stories have linked Piątek, but I think this would make a lot of sense as a transfer in my opinion. Piątek comes with plenty of experience, and would only cost around £12 million.

His recent loan spell at Fiorentina proved he can still contribute extremely well as a rotational player, and Everton are looking for that kind of striker.

Piątek has already been heavily linked with Salernitana, as a starting striker, and Borussia Dortmund as a back-up. Both moves have broken down, for one reason or another, but having clubs of that calibre considering his services proves the quality he still possesses, even if his adventure at Hertha has been disappointing in the extreme.

I’m not suggesting it is, or will be particularly close to happening, but it is one of those transfers that seems to make so much sense, and yet no-one is talking about it.
