Krystian Bielik continued his good form ahead of the World Cup by registering an assist for the first goal in a 2-0 win for Birmingham against Queens Park Rangers at St. Andrews last night.
The 24 year-old midfielder played the full 90 minutes, and he put in a very good performance. Despite this, he did make a few wayward passes, including one in a very dangerous moment on the edge of his own penalty area. He was booked early in the second half but was otherwise measured in his challenges.
Bielik’s assist came in the fourth minute, as a corner bounced out towards him and he played the ball back into the crowd of players. Defender Auston Trusty flicked the ball over the goalkeeper with his heel and QPR were on the back foot from that point.
In the second half, Birmingham had to defend their lead and managed to do this well, and Bielik was key to that.
It was an encouraging performance for Bielik, who will probably be starting in Poland’s midfield against Mexico in three weeks’ time in Doha. There was a heart-in-mouth moment where it looked like Bielik might have injured his knee, but it was just his opponent catching Bielik down the front of his leg with his studs.
