Arkadiusz Reca to miss tonight’s game vs Holland

News broke yesterday afternoon, as per Tomasz Włodarczyk, that Arkadiusz Reca and Paweł Dawidowicz had undergone ultrasound exams and that they would be sitting out tonight’s game against Holland. For Dawidowicz, he was most likely due to be on the bench, but Reca was believed to be pencilled in to start at the left wing-back position.

This means there is now a starting spot up for grabs. I would imagine that Michał Skóraś might well start in what would be his first appearance for his country, given that Nicola Zalewski is still coming off the back of a muscle issue that was keeping him out of Roma’s games the last two weeks.

It is worth also mentioning that Przemysław Frankowski is able to play the wing-back role on both sides of the pitch, and he plays more on the left at club level for Lens. He was believed to be in competition with Robert Gumny to play on the right in the absence of Matty Cash, but Czesław Michniewicz could choose to put Frankowski on the left and Gumny on the right if he prefers experience over Skóraś.

However, I believe that it is more likely that Skóraś starts on the left and Frankowski starts on the right, largely for two reasons. Gummy is a versatile player, Michniewicz has said as much, however he has most often been deployed as a right-sided player in a back three this season for Augsburg. Secondly, Skóraś has deserved this call-up given his performances, both in the Ekstraklasa and the Europa Conference League, and Michniewicz said in yesterday’s press conference that Skóraś “looks very good and is fighting for a trip to the World Cup”.

Line-ups will be officially announced one hour prior to kick-off, although unofficial reports of the starting XI will most likely emerge between three to four hours before kick-off.
